patrick frey: nook for vial
'nook' is a new range of plastic furniture by german designer patrick frey. the collection
produced by vial is constructed with the material varioline® - made of solid structural
outer layers and a lightweight foamed centre core, that results in a panel that is very stiff
and impact resistant and exceptionally low weight. varioline can supply hand-moulded or
machine-moulded casting products varying from 0.5 kg to 30,000 kg in small or large sizes.
'nook' uses a single piece of varioline in production. it is first folded along a milled
clinching pattern, to create structural tension before the entire form is fixed at the bottom
using an aluminium catch.
patrick frey is currently exhibiting his work at the imm cologne furniture fair 2010
