bo reudler: haute bamboo

dutch designer bo reudler and bamboo-architect olav bruin have teamed up to produce a series of furniture entitled, 'haute bamboo'.

Bamboo is one of our most renewable resources and is often considered poor man's timber.with this collection, reudler and bruin wanted to re-examine the aesthetics of bamboo furniture. The curves of 'bambusa ventricosa' are caused by a rare mutation in the bamboo, which produces strikingly bulbous stalks. these bulging forms, give personality to each stalk. Here reudler and bruin have embraced this aesthetic and utilized it within their designs. The coating of glossy black linseed-oil paint in which the pieces are finished, references eastern lacquered furniture, connecting them to the origins of their material. All pieces have been made by hand.
